A selection of pieces from an ongoing series exploring the use of curvilinear line.
The Formel series marries itself with the Informel group. The latter has an emphasis on expression, intuition and spontaneity. Formel is taking that intuitive expression and confining it graphically to show a level of control and composition that the informel paintings rebel against. Continuing the same ideas behind the Informel paintings, this series seeks to translate unconscious thought processes into a visual realm.
An open ended group of paintings inspired by the European movement of the same name during the 1940's and 1950's which abandoned geometric abstraction in favor of a more intuitive form of expression. The Informel series has an emphasis on expression, intuition and spontaneity, in hopes of translating unconscious thought processes onto paper.
A group of pieces exploring the relationship between text and imagery where each piece shows a fragment from an overall narrative.
A short series of mixed media finger paintings, focused on freedom and spontaneity.
My contributions to a collaborative suite of 100 drawings made by 10 artists.
The premise was simple— to explore the range of processes, aesthetics and possibilities of drawing given a minimal set of guidelines.
• 10 artists each made a series of 10 drawings
• Each drawing was made within a 10cm x 10cm square
• Each drawing was centered on a 10′’ x 10′’ sheet of paper
The resulting drawings were shared as 10 image photo sets via tumblr, over the course of 10 sequential days. Each daily post featured one image from each of the participating artists.
Photo sets can be seen here
